Productions Herstory...

Slinky
Productions began
the spring of 2000 by former exotic dancer, and visual artist Catherine
Rose.
At that time, 'lap dancing'
and 'pole dancing' were unheard of terms, outside of the strip clubs.
Dancers and club patrons/workers were the only ones privy to such
references. (Today, these terms are used almost daily on TV, in
the news and and all over the general US media.)
Slinky Productions was
first to teach pole dance and lap dance in the San Francisco Bay
Area. Ms Rose was also the first studio in the Bay Area to offer
exotic dance classes to bachelorette parties as an alternative to
hiring a male stripper
Still a largely one-woman
labour of love, Slinky Productions has a reputation as being the
most down to earth yet extremely professional place in the country
to learn/explore exotic dance.
Ms Rose has continuing students
who train with her from as far away as Japan, China and Hawaii.
All of the material taught is compiled through Catherine's direct
experience as a professional exotic dancer, with the exception of
pole moves.

Catherine
started her career as an exotic dancer at age 18, part-time, while
still a student. When she retired at 31, friends kept asking her
to show off “a few sexy moves” that they could easily
learn and use right away on their lovers.
Catherine began offering small workshops in sensual
dance exclusively to her close friends and communities in 2000.
It was through these informal efforts that Ms. Rose came to develop
her love of erotic movement and working with women into a full time
business that now includes ongoing classes, private lessons, bachelorette
parties, and a unique award winning tour of strip clubs.
Known for her professional (yet personal)
approach, Catherine Rose will put you at ease with her supportive,
respectful style of teaching, helping you to reconnect with your
sexy feminine side. Having actually worked in the exotic
dance field for years before becoming teacher, Catherine is uniquely
qualified to demystify exotic dance concepts and techniques, as
well as the practice of the profession.
After being a dancer, Catherine explored a wide
range of courses in sexuality as a path for personal and spiritual
growth, which she also brings to this work. Ms Rose's

Christina: Guest Instructor
We discovered Christina on one of our Tours of North Beach Strip Clubs and were completely blown away. She is absolutely stunning and embodies a slow sensuality that we thought was purrfect for Slinky students.
Lucky for us she agreed to teach, starting as a Guest Instructor this WInter.
Christina began pole dancing in 2001. She worked along the East Coast, in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. In 2007, she moved to San Francisco and was accepted at one of the top clubs in the city. Over the years she has adapted a unique style, a combination of "dirty south" techniques mixed with the slow groove of California. In May 2009, Christina placed in the simi-finals of the Deja Vu Pole Dance Competition. Currently she is teaches group pole fitness classes for Crunch Gym and continues to work part time in the club scene. You can also see her featured in Caroline Lund's new video "Move your body".

How did a nice
Jewish girl from Montreal land up working a a Stripper in San Francisco?
Catherine Rose began exotic
dancing when she was 18 years old and still living in Canada. After
working a number of service jobs since age 13, she was drawn to
exotic dancing for the money. In 1983, after much deliberation,
including a college paper comparing the similarities differences
between male and female strip clubs and strippers, for a Humanities
class, she went to work in a small strip club outside of Toronto,
Ontario, in between semesters. It lasted for just one week.
In 1986, Catherine returned
to strip clubs but with her clothes on. She worked behind the counter
at an upscale gentlemen's club, Brandy's, in Vancouver, BC, while
on summer break from Art School. It was here that Ms Rose got to
witness some of the most memorizing performances while serving up
cappuccinos , preparing salads and sandwiches to the dancers and
patrons.
in 1987 she moved to
San Francisco from Montreal, Canada
Catherine auditioned at
the Lusty Lady Peep Show in 1989 (now unionized, worker owned and
operated) and continued to work part time while pursuing her path
as a visual artist.
She made good friends
with the dancers and support staff at the Lusty Lady and is mentioned
in several published books about the sex industry written by colleagues
who worked with her during this time. (under the names Kitty and
Cherry Luv)
Catherine worked at the
peep show for a couple of years before moving on to larger more
lucrative venues where she performed on a live stage as well as
on the laps of patrons. She worked in several strip clubs and traveled
to New York to work en route to Europe.
In 1995, Catherine Rose
returned to school full time at the San Francisco Art Institute
after receiving a scholarship in photography from SF City College.
In 1997 she became involved
with EDA, Exotic Dancers Alliance, an organization
founded by Johanna Bryer and Dawn Passar, Daisy Anarchy, helping
women to fight for better working conditions as well as assisting
dancers who chose to sue club owners for back wages. Catherine created
their first web site. note: EDA
founded the St James Infirmary in San Francisco,
a free health clinic for sex workers and their partners.
In 1998-99 Catherine retired
and went to work at the Academy of Art in SF as an Apple computer
lab technician.
She later branched off
to freelance as an Apple Technician, a Web Designer and Graphic
software Instructor.
In 2000 Catherine began
offering private exotic dance lessons to close friends as well as
group classes.
By the fall of 2000 Catherine
was teaching private groups on a monthly basis.
Slinky classes went public
in 2001 at time when it was almost unheard of, and in January 2004,
Slinky Productions was born and became a full time business.
